Exning United began our new season in league action on Saturday at the Lane vs Cherry Hinton,

Cherry Hinton started the game on the front foot, putting pressure on Exning straight from the first whistle with one or two threatening attacks, however Exning quickly got into their stride, with Cole, Driver, Briggs and Daykin all testing the Hinton keepers resolve forcing numerous saves from the Cherry’s keeper and some good defensive play from the visitors stopping Exning’s dynamic attacks. With both of Exning wide players, Daykin and Driver causing headaches for the full backs. It was new signing Driver who managed to break the deadlock with a great finish to get United on the score sheet and give Driver his first goal for the club. 1-0 to Exning.

With their tails up Exning began to mount consistent pressure on the away side, and it wasn’t long before Harry Cole pounced and got himself his first goal for the club, after a fumbled save from Cherry Hinton’s keeper, 2-0 Exning. The home team then began to flow, with new signing Eryk Wojtowicz returning to his boyhood club, scoring from the left-hand side with a lung bursting run and powerful finish, 3-0 to Exning.

Exning then increased the pressure and went further ahead with another sublime finish from Archie Briggs, with a goal we have been accustomed to for the last few seasons, giving the keeper no chance 4-0 Exning.

With the ebb and flow of the game and Histon managing to create one or two really decent attacks, they could have got a couple of goal scoring opportunities but for the solid Exning defence of Cowling, Blazek, Challis and Wojtowicz snuffing out any forays into the Exning half, with Misczcak and Pillinger in the centre controlling the tempo of the game Exning looked solid against the Hinton attacks, with their chances to test keeper Tidball

few and far between. Exning went further ahead with the midfield powerhouse Miszczak finishing well to take the game away from Hinton, 5-0 Exning.

The excellent Exning were not done there, with debutant Driver scoring an outrageous goal form the lefthand side to get his brace and make it 6-0 to Exning. Giving a perfect finish to the half for Exning, with all positives from Coach Tidball at the break and with the introduction of Stocker and Taylor United came out at half time with much of the same intensity and looked to further the score, with some excellent play from Stocker, he managed to set up ever industrious Taylor for his first goal of the campaign, 7-0 Exning.

It wasn’t long before Stocker got himself on the score sheet with a nice passage of play, and a good finish, leaving the keeper no chance, 8-0 Exning. The away side were rewarded with a consolation goal after powerful play from their centre forward he managed to evade the attentions of the Exning defence and managed to score a well taken goal, beating the Exning keeper at his near post, 8-1 Exning.

If United can find the same intensity and quality for the entirety of their games this season, they should be a force to be reckoned with.
